Open position: Engineer (with or without a PhD) in WebRTC and Semantic Web
Research engineer - Open position: Web-Based Robot Control
I3S / Sophia Antipolis (France)
AZKAR project: “fast control of mobile robots over the internet, using web technologies such as WebRTC” / Contrôle-Commande Rapide de Robots mobiles à l’aide de technologies web, telles que WebRTC,
Remote control of mobile robot over Internet, WebRTC, HTML5, semantic web / web of data.
We are looking for a Research Engineer with a background in the field of modern WebApps (HTML5/JS/WebRTC) and optionally knowledge in semantic web technologies (RDF/SPARQL) to join the Inria WIMMICS team (http://wimmics.inria.fr). Project Management capabilities is mandatory for this two year project.
Service robotics is being developed, and its deployment will require a good integration with the Internet. While most robots are already connected, crucial bottlenecks are: the robustness of connections and responsiveness.
Robustness is the ability to overcome or deal momentary with losses of connections. Responsiveness may result in the absence of visible latency, and the more general sense by good control of the latter: the algorithms for robot control are all based on a single time, its sampling frequency. The Azkar project aims to develop solutions to address these two issues, based on current technologies and ongoing development of the real-time web (WebSockets, WebRTC). These solutions are intended to be generic to many types of applications, and will be demonstrated in health, culture and transport, 3 services to major person applicants.
The first step of the project will be the evaluation / benchmarking of video and data solutions over internet, based on the WebRTC technology. The second step will consist in helping robotic partner in the project (the Robosoft company) implement these solutions on a real mobile robot that will be deployed in museums or in homes for helping seniors in their daily tasks. Semantic web technologies, will be used in the project for describing the services, the context of the application domain, the content transmitted, etc.
Mandatory requirements for applicants:
- Master in computer engineering or PhD in computer engineering,
- Good control of scripting tools (bash, Unix/Linux tools), capable of installing web servers or other open source tools;
- Experience in project management,
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented and willing to work in an international team;
- Good level in English and fluent in French.
Gross Salary per month according to the level of diploma and the experience in the domain:
- Without PhD: 0-3 years of experience: 1800 euros net
- 3-5 years of experience: 1900 euros net
- With PhD: 2100-2300 euros net.
